Asanor is the main character. He is 15 when the story begins. An ancient prophecy says that Asanor, one day, will put end to an evil matter. Asanor is a brave and valiant youth, a little bit naïve. He is very proud of his achievement: he has become general and lord of Roke. But the future is bitter...

Kjerim Knox is an Evocator. Lord Oksak sent him to find Asanor and bring him to Roke. Kjerim, instead, puts Asanor under Zervigh's care and disappear. We we'll find him again in Roke's prison, whence he escapes and join Elves' tribe. Lord Oksak stripped him of his magical powers.

Dwenn, an Elf, is Asanor's best friend. They live together for 2 years, first in Sevon and then in Loramin. After a troubled period, Dwenn leaves Asanor. Furious, Asanor erases any presence of Dwenn in his life.

at Sevon

Zervigh holds a bookshop in Sevon. He is the father of Brenon, Jibras and Miriel.

Brenon is Zervigh' elder son. He delights in herbology. Deprived of his magical powers by Lord Oksak.

Jibras, wizard and priest, is strictly tied with Lord Oksak. He becomes Asanor's counsellors, but it seems that under this facade he is conspiring something against Asanor. Jibras is very clever and always hides his real thoughts.

Miriel is the daughter of Zervigh. When Asanor lives at Zervigh's home, he and Miriel falls in love. Two years later, Asanor takes Miriel with him to Roke and eventually marries her. Miriel has a nervous constitution and most things seems to shaken her.

Saki is Miriel's best friend. She becomes also her sister-in-law, marrying Brenon.

at Loramin

Filippo Fëdor is a fisher in Loramin before he meets Asanor and enter in his company of reward-hunters. After the departure od Dwenn, he becomes Asanor's closest friend. He becomes the lieutenant of his Army and calls himself Rinaldo after the seizing of Amina (whose hero was a certain Rinaldo).

Gorim is Filippo Fëdor's brother. He's the most violent and vulgar member of the company.

the company of Asanor

Andr is the wisest, and he's the major in charge when Rinaldo is absent. Greg is the oldest, introvert and grumbler. Xavier is cynic; in the second part of the story he fells in love with Miriel. Nicholas is friendly and optimistic. Icek is amusing, but a bit coward. Mark is simple-minded but brave.

at Roke

Lord Oksak is the praetor of the School of Magic of Roke. He is a greedy man and wants to rule all Roke. For that aim, he makes use of Asanor. He's the bad guy, yes.

Dayven Ross is the general of Oksak until Asanor arrives. Saving Erminia from prison, he loses Oksak's favour and turns against his master. He is a real gentleman.

Feleus is the priest who guide the refugees revolt in Roke. Narrow-minded.

at Nusreth

Erminia was the mistress of Nusreth until Asanor seizes the place. She is then given the barony of Schelda by Dayven Ross, who woes her, and eventually marries her.

at Amina

Lord Danquo is the lord of Amina. Instigated by his wife Anneka, he tries to poison Asanor. He fails, and is beheaded.

Lady Anneka is the wife of Lord Danquo. After his death, she goes mad.

at Flastad

Soran Celeq is the President of the Guilds of Torre. He does the guide of Asanor in that city. Wounded in the naval battle against Noto, he dies on Asanor's ship.

Par-Mah is the Head of the Council of Flastad.

Brissiano is the Lyg of Flastad. The Lyg should be the chief of all the Guilds of Flastad; in facts, he is like a king. He's an handsome man, but too submissive to his wife.

Shalimar is the Lygess, the wife of the Lyg. She is the most beautiful woman of Flastad.

at Pendat

Naide is a sorceress who lives in the five-fingered tower of Pendat. She is very attractive and tries to seduce Asanor. Indeed, she's a dramatic character, who holds a secret.

Carla is a servant of Naide. She falls in love with Rinaldo.
