Ricardian Tour, June 2008

June 18, 2008

The Holy Island of Lindisfarne is an incredibly suggestive place, for it is reachable only when the tide is low, as Mont Saint Michel in France. Our coach drove among the sand to get us there, and sheeps were grazing a few metres away from the sea line.

Only ruins now remains of what once was one of the main priories in England, and the body of St Cuthbert was buried here before being transferred to Durham when the island was attacked by the Vikings.

The man with the red jacket was drawing the bronze statue of the Virgin in front of him. I felt a great sympathy for him.

We spent an enjoyable half hour in the port of Seahouses, where ferries depart to Farne Islands.

We were able to see the Bamburgh Castle from the port.

previous day: Alnwick Castle
